This week of the inaugural The DGC Open is a departure from the past in quite a few ways.

The Asian Tour returns to the hallowed and feared Lodhi Course of the Delhi Golf Club (DGC) since October 2018, when Khalin Joshi won the Panasonic Open to his breakthrough win. The Tour’s absence from DGC is the longest in recent memory for the which the pandemic too has played a part.

What stands out this time is that not just the players, the Lodhi Course too will be under scrutiny this time. It will be the first time since it was redesigned by Gary Player in 2019 that the Lodhi Course will stage an international tournament.

Exclusive: In conversation with Major Ravinder Singh Bedi and Rohit Sabherwal

Whatever meets the eye is the result of nine months of sweat, toil and planning to the minutest detail. The men who oversaw the mammoth project were Major Ravinder Singh Bedi (retd) and Rohit Sabherwal, who were the Club Captain and Secretary, respectively, when the overhaul took off in early 2019.

The duo relived those times in this exclusive interview with fondness as well as eagerness on what lies ahead. The traditional challenges synonymous with the Lodhi Course stay intact, and players will have to cope with the new tests that lie in wait after the redevelopment.

Here’s to a week of engrossing golf.
