Yosuke Asaji engraved his name on the 50th anniversary tournament at Mynavi ABC Championship, capturing his 3rd Japan Golf Tour victory following the win at ANA Open in 2019.

The final round at the ABC Golf Club on Sunday was a keenly contested one between Yosuke, Mikumu Horikawa and Tomohiro Ishizaka in the final group.

The three were tied when they reached 17th, and all of them couldn’t find the fairway. While two laid up, Yosuke chose to play aggressively and went over the tree line from the deep rough towards the green. The splendid iron shot not only caught the green but came within 7-metres to the pin for a birdie putt and the lead.

On the 18th, Mikumu and Tomohiro found their tee shots in the deep left-side bunkers, while Yosuke found centre fairway. He got his 2nd shot over the water on to the green and made an easy 2-putt for birdie to close the deal.

Yosuke had also pulled off a magnificent 2nd shot from under the tree and stuck it to the pin on the 7th. On the 15th, he gave himself 5-metre eagle chance to catch up to the leader.

He had two victories in 2019, but with the pandemic halting tournaments, it took a while to pull off the third victory.

“I was close to winning so many times, but couldn’t make it. It felt really long until I achieved my third victory. I had good and bad points in my round today, but overall, I would say it was perfect,” said Yosuke.
