It was an action packed day for India after Lovlina Borgohain assured India of their second medal after winning her quarterfinal clash after beating Chinese Taipei’s Chen Nien-chin. She is set to face Turkey’s Busenaz Surmeneli, the top seed, in the semi-finals but will win a bronze even if she loses.

PV Sindhu increased her chances of winning a medal after she stormed into the quarter finals with a win over Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi 21-13, 22—20 in the Women’s singles quarterfinal match.

Indian men finished second in their group by beating Japan 5-3 with four wins — including three on the trot — and a loss, scoring 12 points. Australia is a point ahead of them. The Indian women kept their quarter final hopes alive after beating Ireland 1-0, their first win in Tokyo Olympics. They will play its final group match against world No. 16 South Africa on Saturday.

Indians in Action

Archer Deepika Kumari began the day on a winning note by defeating two-time Olympic silver-medallist Ksenia Perova of ROC 6-5 in a shootoff in the round of 16. However, she lost 6-0 to top seed An San of South Korea in the women’s individual archery event.
