Star Sports bags ‘Best Use Of Technology in Broadcast Award’ for IPL 2020

Star Sports has taken the use of cricket broadcast technology to new highs with utmost  LIVE broadcast innovations year on year. The Indian Premier League host broadcaster’s use of technology has been recognised by SportsBusiness.

The global sports business publication has bestowed the Sports Technology Award on Star Sports for the ‘Best Use of Technology by a Broadcaster’.

Star Sports was honoured for redefining viewing experiences with unprecedented integration of state-of-the-art technology during the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

“At Star India, we have constantly invested in technology to deliver next-generation consumer experiences. IPL 2020 was a great learning experience for all of us and we pushed our boundaries using technology to bring fans closer to the game,” said a Star Sports spokesperson in a recent statement.

As part of its live online coverage of Indian Premier League cricket matches, Star Sports has launched a new virtual set and a myriad of augmented reality graphics to impress audiences.

“The new virtual set and the Vizrt graphics tools give us endless possibilities for how we can cover professional cricket with AR and VR in the studio. It’s important for us to tell our stories to audiences with the latest techniques in data analysis, and through the use of cutting-edge augmented reality and virtual reality graphics,” said Star Sports senior VP Viraj Verma.

The awards are judged by over 50 leading influencers from the world of sports and technology.

Star Sports had bagged the all exclusive IPL media rights for a five-year cycle (2018-2022) for a jaw-dropping ₹ 16,347 crore.
