Sneha Singh: Insight into a winner’s mind

Sneha Singh would be a lot wiser and relieved, having put aside the heartbreak towards the closing stages of Women’s Golf Association of India’s first event after Lockdown 2.

The 17th hole of the DLF Golf and Country Club has put paid to many title hopes in the past, and the young amateur sampled the pain of watching the crown slip from her grasp.

That was last week, but the lessons were learnt and put to use this time on a course Sneha had never played. In fact, she wasn’t aware that the Golden Greens Golf Club was a links-style course till she arrived here.

Nevertheless, the thick rough and deep bunkers were not challenging enough to test Sneha’s as she shot under-par the last days for her third overall title on the pro tour.

In fact, there is a tale behind her arrival for WGAI’s Legs 7-9 in the National Capital Region. “I wasn’t in the best of form, especially my ball striking, and the putting too wasn’t fluent.
The day before I was to leave from Hyderabad (for Gurgaon for Legs 7 and 8), there was heavy rain and it was getting dark, but I was on the practice green with father (and coach Sanjay Singh) well past sunset, and the last-minute tips really helped,” said Sneha.

After two strong results, Sneha’s confidence is sky high and that should be a big aide as she tees off for the final time this month at the Noida Golf Course on Wednesday.
